Portrait and Lifestyle Photography, San Diego

I'm feeling pretty flattered, this pretty lady loved her portrait photo shoot so much that she's going to be flying all the way from the east coast to San Diego to for another photography session this October on the beach.  It really is incredible the wonderful people I've met through my time as a photographer.

I'm now booking senior portrait photography shoots on location here in San Diego. So have a gander at my website here and send me an email or click on 'contact' to let me know the style of shoot you'd like :)

A runaway wedding at Red Rock, Nevada

It was exciting to be a part of Kathryn and Seth's secret wedding in the big city lights of Las Vegas, Nevada.  A little different from the usual way to wed, this beautiful couple decided to keep it simplistic and romantic, it was only about them.....

In the middle of July, we knew the heat would be unbearable, so lots of water in preparation and an early start to beat the heat as much as we could, though it was still 109 degrees Fahrenheit or 42 degrees Celsius.

Free Photoshop Curve - Seaside

I remember when I first started using a digital slr instead of my film one.  The picture felt too real, I would play with the image to make it less sharp or less colourful and missed the feeling of nostalgia that was prevalent in film photography. And so I often create a vintage look when I'm editing, this usually involves playing around with curves to bring out colours or create that film effect.

Long story short, here's 'seaside', a free curve for you.

Have a play around with it, the first image below is at 50% opacity, the next two at 100%. It works best on images with a lot of neutral tones.  There's instructions below if you're unsure how to use it in Photoshop.

Instructions:

Move the curve you downloaded into your photoshop “presets” folder.
For windows, the folder is located here:
c:\program files\adobe\adobe photoshop\presets\
For mac, the presets are located here:
~/library/application support/adobe/adobe photoshop/presets/

Or:

open photoshop with the image you want to edit.
To open the curves window press Ctrl + Alt + m (windows) / command + m (mac)
next to the preset drop down box there's a load curve button, click 'load preset' and locate your curve from the download folder

Self Portrait

It's always most uncomfortable for a photographer being the other side of the lens, but also so important to know what it feels like.  I live by stepping outside my comfort zone with my lifestyle so it's about time I applied that to photography so I'll be doing a series of self portraits until I feel good doing them, if that will ever happen! A friend actually inspired me to do this one, encouraging me to get in front of the camera, plus I had a new backdrop I need to experiment with for an upcoming shoot.  It's mostly natural lighting, shot in my apartment in Las Vegas, but I did use a little fill in flash with a diffuser.  I also had a black reflector to the side to create a little depth to the picture which is the shadow you see on the right side.  I was going for a seventies feel.

Kristal reached out to me because she wanted a photographer to give her a shoot to mark her 21st Birthday where she was visiting her brother in Las Vegas, Nevada.  She sent me through some inspo pics, which I loved, so we set out to Red Rock to get creative. This trooper battled some minor issues on the day such as nosebleeds, allergies and a few other things, but who can tell?
